DUG — Introducing the Purist 37

[ Project story ]

For the launch of the Purist 37, I created a few photos & film presenting both new versions side by side: Typ 1 with stick markers and Typ 2 with numerals, in black, white and blue, on leather and steel bracelet. A smaller size the community had been asking for since the brand’s start.

A smaller format, a broader story

For the launch of the Purist 37, I created photographs and film showing both new versions of the watch. A smaller size had been requested by the community since the brand’s start, so this release was not simply another variation. Its size was part of the reason for introducing it.

The project needed to present that release clearly while making room for the differences within the range. Typ 1 uses stick markers; Typ 2 uses numerals. Both belong to the same family, yet those dial choices give each version a distinct character.

Seeing the versions side by side

Photographing the two types together makes those differences easier to read. Rather than asking the viewer to remember one image while looking at another, the series can put the alternatives in direct conversation. It is a simple way to show how much the dial changes the impression of the watch.

Black, white and blue dials, together with leather straps and steel bracelets, add another set of comparisons. The challenge is to show choice without letting the presentation feel fragmented. Each image needs its own purpose while still belonging to a consistent series.

Photography and film as a sequence

Working with both stills and film gives the launch more than one pace. A photograph lets the viewer pause and compare. Film offers another way to spend time with the watch and follow its forms. Neither has to repeat everything the other already shows.

For me, the project brings product photography back to a practical question: what does someone need to see to understand the release? With the Purist 37, that means recognising the smaller format, understanding Typ 1 and Typ 2, and seeing how the available combinations sit within one coherent collection.
